Eczema Workshop for Health Professionals (2.5 hours)

2.5 Continuing Nurse Education (CNE) Points Allocated

Eczema is an inflammatory skin condition characterised by dryness, redness, inflammation and an unrelenting itch. It cannot be cured, but can be effectively managed to improve quality of life for patients and their families.

This workshop has been designed to educate health professionals how to manage eczema in the clinical setting. It covers physical processes, clinical features, care plans and current principles of therapy. A ‘hands-on’ approach is taken to become familiar with how to apply the various treatments used in eczema management, including wet wrapping and emollient therapy.

The workshop is facilitated by Ms Deryn Thompson, Allergy Nurse and lecturer in Allergy Nursing at the University of South Australia. Deryn is the co-author of the Professional Certificate in Allergy Nursing at the University of South Australia, cofounder of the SA Allergy Nurses Group, and actively involved in the Australian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy Council. With over 18 years experience in managing allergic disorders, Deryn is committed to providing education to health professionals on best-practice eczema management.
