COPD Workshop for Health Professionals (1-day)

7 Continuing Nurse Education (CNE) Points Allocated

The COPD workshop will improve awareness and understanding of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) among health professionals.


This workshop examines the clinical features, diagnosis and management of COPD, including pharmacological management and nebuliser usage. It also includes a practical introduction to performing and interpreting spirometry.Participants are encouraged to bring along their own spirometer to maximise transference of skills.


Keynote speakers will address specialty topics such as pharmacology, oxygen therapy and pulmonary rehabilitation. On completing the program, the participant will have the necessary information and skills to commence providing education to people with COPD.


Participants will be provided with an up to date folder of course readings and be registered on a health professional data base, ensuring they are kept up to date with the latest programs, conferences and workshops offered by the Foundation.

  • December 3rd

Venue

The workshop is held at the Education Development Centre, Milner St. Hindmarsh.

Cost

Total cost for the workshop is $195 pp. This includes the comprehensive ‘Know Your Asthma’ book, hardcopy resources and readings, morning, afternoon tea and lunch.

  • Current statistics and trends in respiratory disease in Australia
  • Pathophysiology of COPD
  • Medications for the management of respiratory disease
  • Nebuliser usage and selection
  • Guidelines for the management of COPD
  • Oxygen Therapy; Indications, assessment, domiciliary oxygen
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Introduction to performing and interpreting spirometry
