Workplace Asthma Emergency Training

Asthma is a serious condition and is recognised as one of the top 6 health priorities in Australia. Over 2 million Australians have asthma including 1 in 9 children and 1 in 10 adults. Asthma is one of Australia’s most widespread chronic (long-term and persistent) health problems.

Australia workplaces are impacted directly by this disorder and in particular by poorly controlled or poorly managed asthma. Factors of concern for employers are:

• Absenteeism related to individual employees
• Absenteeism of parents caring for children with asthma
• Lowered productivity due to lost sleep
• Incidences of work aggravated asthma
• Incidences of occupational asthma

Employers can create a safer work environment by training their staff to manage an asthma emergency.

“An employee had an asthma attack in one of our stores, which made us very apprehensive about it happening again. That’s when we made a commitment to having two people trained at each and every store. The asthma training is in addition to their Senior First Aid Certificate and has given them the reassurance and extra confidence they need to deal with an asthma attack” – HR Manager

Why Training is Important

Workplace training is an essential risk management strategy.  With any first aid response, the first few minutes are vital.  Training prepares organisations to help create a safer environment and empowers them to achieve optimum response.  This program ensures staff are trained to deal with a respiratory emergency, whether the person is experiencing their first attack or whether they have history of respiratory disease.

Our training programs are designed to not only benefit the employees, but also meet a number of corporate goals including:

• Increased productivity
• Reduced sickness and absenteeism
• Overall improvement in employee health status.
