Asthma Foundation of South Australia
Our Cause
Our cause is every South Australian who struggles for breath. It is up to us to show South Australians the extent to which they take breathing for granted, to show them how serious it is to not be able to breathe. The Asthma Foundation of South Australia understands that struggling for breath impacts on day-to-day life.
Our Mission
To help people to breathe better.
Our Vision
To reduce the impact of asthma and other respiratory conditions on day-to-day life.
Our Philosophy
The Asthma Foundation of South Australia believes that best management of respiratory health comes from self-care and an active relationship with your General Practitioner or health professional and that people need information to achieve that.
Our Purpose
The Asthma Foundation of South Australia provides information and in so doing increases health literacy on respiratory issues.
Our Approach
The Asthma Foundation of South Australia listens to, values, acknowledges, validates and learns from people’s experiences. We encourage people to ask questions and learn.
We work to their strengths and help them achieve their right to good health care through access to appropriate respiratory health information and services, and a healthy respiratory environment.
We encourage them to ‘speak up’ and have access to informed, expert opinion from medical, scientific and community health professionals, whose expertise we value and respect.
To us there are at least two types of ‘evidence’: medical and scientific evidence and significant evidence based on people’s experiences and community input. Both are valid and should be used to achieve the best respiratory health outcomes.
We navigate our way around all the ‘evidence’; gathering and considering information from many sources, to map out a route that helps individuals to breathe better.
